RICH RICH RICH

It will be great when we are dead.

That's what people think the Christian faith is about. Especially those of us who have never really experienced God in their lives. They think that it's "Pie in the sky after you die".

People feel that to be a Christian is to miss out on all the fun and be tied down to a poor, boring life full of restrictions.

But that's not what our faith is like. See, your life is better when God is in it. In every single way, you will succeed more in your life if you follow Christ.

The Blessing of the Lord maketh rich and addeth no sorrow with it.

Proverbs 10:22 (KJV)
The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

I know of a man who was in a band when he was a teenager. They were going to be famous and the whole world would know them. When he became a Christian, for a great number of reasons or no reason at all, he knew he had to let go of this band that he really loved. He was heartbroken. And his band members were mad as hell. They said he'd regret it. They said they would be famous and now no one would know about him ever or at all.

He preached the gospel and was dirt poor for years after he quit the band.

See, this young man understood that being a Christian means that at some point nothing else matters. He understood that to worship God entailed God being your everything. He understood that it meant "God above everything else". And we have forgotten this as modern Christians. We forget that Christianity means at some level, giving it all up for God.

He is now over fifty years old. He is a a reknown highly effective marriage counselor. He leads a huge ministry and a large church in the United states. He is a great public speaker and is known all over the world. He is far far far from poor. I’m talking about Mark Gungor.

Again, the blessing of the Lord maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

What you pursue relentlessly, that is your god. That which you pursue above all, that is your god.

The blessing of the LORD Jehovah maketh rich and addeth no sorrow.
The blessing of Mammon (money) maketh rich but addeth the sorrow of an unfulfilled enslavement to money.
The blessing of Sex gives you what you want but makes you a lustful insatiable slave.
The blessing of (that person, thing, situation) you are pursuing above all else, well you may get it, but you will reap exhaustion, frustration and unfulfillment in the end.

Choose your god. We are all serving someone. And each will give you what you want, but at a price.

Notice, it doesn't have to be a bad thing that you are pursuing, God just does not tolerate any rivals. If you are going to have the LORD as your God, then he has to be final. FINAL. The end. Him and him alone. Him above everything. EVERYTHING.

That means, when choosing what to do, you always choose God's way.
Not Oprah's way.
Not your friend's way.
Not your psychologist's way.
Not the Hollywood standard.
Not the realistic way. Not the practical way. Not the easy way.
The word of God is not a guideline... It's a rule.

Life as a Christian is better than any other life. And it is better in every way. EVERY WAY. And those who are true followers of Christ know this.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
