PART 2: JESUS THE TRUE MEDIATOR

John 14:6 “I am …the truth; No man comes unto the Father but by Me”.

A summary of the fundamental arguments presented before in Part 1 of this series are worth considering:

1. By committing the original sin, Adam fell from his perfect state into a sinful or depraved nature, which he transmitted into his offspring through birth, and hence became a federal head, so that “In Adam all die” 1 Cor. 15: 22.

2. By taking the form of man (or rather God-Man), Jesus became the Second Adam, gave His divine life to those that believe in Him, hence undoing the effects of first birth by Adam, and propagating a new form of life to those who are born again after His nature, and became the second Federal Head for His people, so that “in Christ shall all be made alive.” 1 Cor. 15: 22

The exclusive truthfulness of Jesus as the Mediator is not an un-reasoned declaration. It is a necessity raised by the nature of the fall of Man into sin, and the way in which that sin is propagated to all men. In order to save Man, someone or the other had to deal with the original sin which was being transmitted to all men through birth. That man had to be perfect and sinless in order to be a source of new perfect life and initiate and transmit this life to the fallen men by way of regeneration of their natures after his nature. In so doing, such a man would be a perfect mediator between God and men, and a federal head to all men that would receive life through him. Such was the original function of Adam, which he failed to deliver; instead he transmitted sin and death to all mankind that were born through him. These tremendous qualifications could not be found in the human or angelic races. It was in Jesus Christ the Son of God where these qualifications were found.

In order to save Man, Christ the Federal Head had to fulfill the following judicial requirements: (1) He had to have human sin and guilt imputed or transferred to Him so as to free Man for it (2) He had to be punished on account of the sin and guilt imputed into Him through suffering and death, thereby paying the debt of human sin due to God (expiation), as well as to propitiate or appease the wrath of God Rom. 6:23; (3) He had to impute or transfer His divine nature, righteousness, forgiveness, peace with God, and all blessings within Him into Man. By Man partaking of the divine nature of Christ, he was born again after the nature of Christ. It is these functions that make Christ the true Mediator.

Such truth is quite logical and sensible, and appeals to any man who can give it a simple, impassionate and level-minded consideration. For if men fell into sin through birth by a sinful Adam through whom they inherited his sinful nature and death, it is logical that men shall be redeemed from sin through a second birth by the second Adam through whom they inherit His divine nature and eternal life. To that end Jesus declared, “Marvel not that I said unto you, You must be born again” Jn. 3:7. A second, spiritual birth must be executed to undo the effects of the first, biological birth.

If any man believes in the Divine creation, the creation and Fall of Man, sin and its propagation by birth, he must then be lead to believe the logic behind the plan of redemption through regeneration, the second birth.

There are, however, dissenters to this truth. There are believers in the creation of all things by God, the creation and the Fall of Man, the propagation of sin by the first parent; yet they deny Christ’s mediation, holding that redemption of Man from sin shall be accomplished through individual works of righteousness.

There are also believers in Evolution, denying the existence of God and His creation of all things, holding that the universe originated from a primordial big bang, that life and life forms originated from a single cell under an environment conducive to enable division and multiplication of cells, formation and mutation of living organisms, and natural selection which resulted in the development of life forms as seen today.

The list of dissenting theories and beliefs is endless, however, whatever theories and beliefs men may hold, each man is not only entitled to his opinion, but held responsible for the choices they make and the opinions they hold as truth. If a man chooses one belief as true over the others, he must, by principle, be prepared to take responsibility that comes with it, as well as to take the risk that may go with it. That is, he should be prepared either to enjoy the benefits if his choice turns out to be true, or to face whatever danger if his choice turns out to be wrong. For the truth cannot be changed, it remains truth whether it is rejected or accepted. The human freedom to choose is fundamental, yet it is not left without a sense of personal responsibility. This saying is hard, yet it must be said unto a world full of men who share a definite common origin, yet holding so diverse beliefs in regard to their future destiny.

It is for this reason that men should exercise diligence in the choices they make in regard to the beliefs they hold as true. No man should be forced to believe any systems of belief or religion, yet, in a world with liberties and freedom of worship, it becomes a personal responsibility to analyze which belief resonates with inherent personal convictions and persuasions and, with full awareness and concerns for one’s soul, each man to be lead to make a choice that works to the best interest and destiny of his soul.

For those who would consider Christ as the truth and the true Mediator and Saviour, we welcome with open hands and hearts, for we testify to them that we have tasted of Christ, and we know that He is true and good. For if Christ is true as He claimed, not only by His words but also by His benevolent and miraculous works, then He is worthy of our consideration and acceptance. Because He risked His life for us, we can ‘risk’ our lives for Him as we plunge our souls by faith into a destiny and future which we have not yet seen – the afterlife. We trust His Word, the Holy Scriptures as recorded in the Bible, for God chose to make His Revelation and truth a matter of public record, preserved it in the Holy Scriptures for all generations, fulfilling all the prophesies concerning the Messiah with perfect accuracy, and for this we trust Him as the truth, and the only true Mediator between God and Man (1Tim. 2:5).

The Mathematical Odds of Jesus Fulfilling Prophecy (Excerpt)

"The following probabilities are taken from Peter Stoner in Science Speaks (Moody Press, 1963) to show that coincidence is ruled out by the science of probability. Stoner says that by using the modern science of probability in reference to eight prophecies, ‘we find that the chance that any man might have lived down to the present time and fulfilled all eight prophecies is 1 in 1017." That would be 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. In order to help us comprehend this staggering probability, Stoner illustrates it by supposing that "we take 1017 silver dollars and lay them on the face of Texas. They will cover all of the state two feet deep. Now mark one of these silver dollars and stir the whole mass thoroughly, all over the state. Blindfold a man and tell him that he can travel as far as he wishes, but he must pick up one silver dollar and say that this is the right one. What chance would he have of getting the right one? Just the same chance that the prophets would have had of writing these eight prophecies and having them all come true in any one man."

Stoner considers 48 prophecies and says, "We find the chance that any one man fulfilled all 48 prophecies to be 1 in 10157, or 1 in 10,00,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 000,000,000."

The estimated number of electrons in the universe is around 1079. It should be quite evident that Jesus did not fulfill the prophecies by accident. He was who He said He was: the only way (John 14:6).
